To a mixture of benzo[b]thiophene-2-carbaldehyde (12 g, 0.074 mol) and hydroxylamine hydrochloride (15.32 g, 0.222 mol) in anhydrous methanol (250 mL) was added potassium carbonate (30.64 g, 0.222 mol) at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. On completion, the mixture was filtered and purified by column chromatography [petroleum ether/ethyl acetate=20: l] to give compound B-102 (1 1.8 g, 90% yield) as a white solid.
