General procedure: To a solution of intermediate 2a-c (1 equiv.) in methanol was added 2N sodium hydroxide at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 4 h and the methanol was removed by rotary evaporation. The resultant mixture was adjusted to pH =5-6 with 1N HCl.
